ATMOSPHERIC ABSTRACTION
Featuring Larry Bell, Gisela Colón, Mara De Luca and Heather Gwen Martin

Quint Gallery
7547 Girard Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037

December 12, 2015 – January 30, 2016

atmospheric installation

ATMOSPHERIC ABSTRACTION: featuring Larry Bell, Gisela Colón, Mara De Luca and Heather Gwen Martin is a mix of paintings, mixed media works and sculptures that create atmospheric shifts in color and light. Addressing concepts deeper than aesthetics - these four artists are influenced by the light they experience, the color they derive from their environment, and the focused study of nature through geometric abstraction. Navigating through the world, the pieces are simple representations of an atmosphere ingrained in their psyche.

Searchin': Los Angeles and the Quest for the Sublime
Angels Gate Cultural Center, San Pedro

Thomas Altheimer, Kevin Cooley, Zoe Crosher, Aaron Giesel, Mara De Luca, Cody Trepte, Erika Yoemans.
Curated by Mary Coyne.

January 27 - April 19, 2013

Searchin': Los Angeles and the Quest for the Sublime is an exhibition that considers contemporary, critical engagements with the theoretical sublime. Inspired by 70s Californian conceptual artist Bas Jan Ader's project, In Search of the Miraculous, the contemporary artists whose work makes up this exhibition re-examine his quest for the sublime and through it, launch their own journeys into the wilderness.

ELEGIES: A Project in Print
Irvine Fine Arts Center

March 9 - April 20, 2013

Interview video- Artist In Residence

ELEGIES
An exhibition of hybrid prints created as Artist in Residence, curated by Carl Berg.
This series of ten prints relates to De Luca's current work in painting, exhibited in CRUISE COLLECTION 2013. For this work, twelve individual layers are mixed and matched to generate ten distinct images.

De Luca has first employed experimental intaglio processes such as aquatint, spit bite and soap ground on zinc plates to create the cloudy, dramatic lighting effects prevalent throughout her work. Once printed, the intaglio plates have then been "translated" to a screenprint form, to be combined and layered through an intuitive process similar to that which operates in her paintings. As with her work in painting, De Luca plays with transparency, opacity and evocative color to generate the mood and atmosphere specific to the ELEGIES project.
